Third Science Conclave: An Interaction with Nobel Laureates

Why is Indian Institute of Information & Technology Allahabad known for? It is known for the quality of education students receiving here, the various cultural and technical events organizing here, the highly qualified faculties and many more. Science Conclave is also one of them. It is the most remarkable event organized in IIIT Allahabad. After organizing two science conclaves successfully our college got a chance to organize third science conclave which was supported by the government of India, MHRD & DST. The third science conclave was held from December 8, 2010 to December 14, 2010. It was an interaction program of Students, Young Teachers and Scientists with Nobel Laureates and eminent national and international Academicians, Scientists, Technologists and Industrialists. The objective of the Interactive Sessions was to inspire and motivate the bright students to take up studies, researches and professional research careers in Basic Sciences in order to promote the scientific developments and innovations in the country.

Nobel Laureates were the main highlights of the event. To add glory to the grand occasion, around 50 highly renowned scientists and academicians from basic sciences and allied areas from all over the world also joined the event. The three Nobel Laureates who joined the event along with other scientists were:

The event was inaugurated on 8th December 2010 by IIIT A Director, Dr. M. D. Tiwari and Nobel Laureates. Event was attended by more than 800 students, teachers and young scientists who were screened for all over the country. 

INSPIRE was the other event in Science Conclave. Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) is an innovative program sponsored and managed by the Department of Science & Technology (DST) for attraction of talent to Science. School and college students were encouraged in INSPIRE to take up science as their career. These sessions were mainly categorized as:


  1. Engineering 1 under O.P.Vyas
  2. Engineering 2 under R.C.Tripathi and K.P.Singh
  3. Physics & Mathematics under S.Sanyal and Pavan Chakraborty  
  4. Biology 1 under G.N.Pandey
  5. Biology 2 under T.Lahiri and Ashutosh Kumar Singh
  6. Chemistry under Krishna Mishra and shekhar verma


Interactive Session of INSPIRE students started on 8th December, 2010 and students were divided in different groups under different mentors and interacting with various Resource persons.

Cultural Nights were also the attraction of Science Conclave. It was an effort to represent our culture in front of various Nobel Laureates, scientists, teachers and students who came across the world. Cultural nights were organized on 9th, 12th and 13th December.

On 9th December Padma Vibhushan Birju Maharaj performed with his troupe. He is currently the leading exponent of the Lucknow Kalka-Bindadin gharana of Kathak dance in India. He also has an excellent command over Hindustani classical music and is an accomplished vocalist as well.

On 12th December the prominent Indian Ghazal singer Jagjit Singh performed. He is also composer, music director, activist and entrepreneur. Jagjit Singh is also known as Ghazal King.

13th December night was entertained by Nrityanjali Troupe. They performed different classical and folks dances.

The Third Science Conclave 2010 and INSPIRE Program 2010 celebrations have concluded with grand perfection to the entire satisfaction of the promoters and participants. The Institute has created history in hosting the Three Science Conclaves and INSPIRE Programs in succession in the country and has earned worldwide acclaim and recognition for hosting these and such other events.
