An evening full of enlightenment with Dr Dilip K. Bandyopadhyay, Vice Chancellor IP University Delhi
Two Days old in the
world of IIIT, MBA and MSCLIS 1st year students got a chance to meet Dr Dilip K Bandyopadhyay, the man
who had been guiding so many managers and Leaders.
As an academic administrator, Dr. Bandyopadhyay has an unparalleled record. He turned around the fortunes of IIM Lucknow from embryonic stage to a reputed B-School where he
was a Professor, acting director and Dean (1985-2004) and played a significant
role-in repositioning IIM-Lucknow as truly integrated
academic institutions. As Director IIFM (2004-2008), a lesser known Institution
was made best management institution of South East Asia. In his present
assignment from 2008 as the Vice Chancellor of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, he has been applying
different blue ocean strategies and management interventions to bring changes
in the young and dynamic professional university with almost 54,000 plus
students getting professional education to position it in the next orbit.
Started with the enquiry of selection process in IIIT, he told that
admission process is a game of rejection not selection so
all the students have been blessed to get in IIIT A, one of the top institutes
in India. Then he told that this year approximate 2, 50,000 students wrote
C.A.T. and if we normal distribute the number of student then there are 85,000
(app 34 %) top students who have same level of aptitude, and we were one of
them.
He stated that in his
long academic career with the top B-Schools of the country, he has witnessed a
peculiar trend regarding the level of dedication and sincerity amongst
students. According to him, the levels of dedication amongst students have been
on a constant decline from the year 1995. The reason for this is that once
students get selected to the top management schools, they concentrated only on
good placements. This leads to loss of the willingness to learn and to explore
greater horizons. However, he said that he has witnessed that after a
considerable time spent, the things are getting better year by year and more
and more students are becoming responsible and willing to learn things
sincerely. This has been witnessed from the year 2006 nearly, which means that
this trend is recurring after a long gap of 11 years.
Then he told the process of unlearning, in this process unlearn all the
things which we have learnt from our previous school and relearn them as
perspective of manager.
Later he talked about the role of IT in the industry, Introduction of the
Information & technology in any organization reduces the production cycle
within the organization. He defined the role of a Techno Manager.
In the end he advised don’t make placement your prime focus, make
learning the prime motive and wished the students good luck for their future.
Sir’s enlightening talk has really encouraged the newcomers of IIITA with
energy and enthusiasm.
