Independence day celebrations

On the occasion of our 64th Independence day, we the inmates of IIIT Allahabad celebrated this Independence day with great enthusiasm and energy. As always, this Independence day also marked the Flag hosting with an encouraging speech from the honorable Dean of student`s welfare, Prof.  G.C. Nandi and then a series of competitive events began with Marathon racing, 100m racing, 100 X 4 m racing, Javelin throw, Short put, Discus Throw etc. All the students participated in these very events in a bulk and won prizes. The prizes won by the students would be given to them during the Foundation day next year.

First of all there was a Flag Hosting session by respected Dean sir . This very event fills us with a sense of patriotism and our hearts with feeling of pride, honor and responsibility of being a part of such a rich and a diverse culture. This day makes us feel the need of ethics in ourselves, reminds us of the sacrifices our freedom fighters have made for us. Makes us remind of the difficulties that our freedom fighters faced to get this valuable freedom for us and its our duty to fulfill the dreams which our forefathers have seen for this country. From the day we got our Independence our country has made a very respectful image in front of the world and promised to be a country with principles. This promise has been fulfilled in some cases but still there is a lot more to do.

During the speech of our Dean sir, in the beginning he praised our present Prime Minister a lot. He quoted in his speech that although we have got Independence for the last 63 years, which is a very long time, but India has started to prosper in a true sense from the past 18 years, including the time when Dr. Manmohan Singh has taken up the responsibility of Prime Minister`s office and also the time when he was our Finance Minister. He said that it was during his time that India started recognizing the perfect path towards prosperity and management. Moreover, in his speech, he thanked all the Engineers, MBA(s) , Technical and Management Gurus for bringing India to this level. It is due to the proper usage of the manpower of this country that today India is booming. He urged all the coming Engineers and Corporate(s) to work towards making India the most powerful country of this world. He made us feel the need to change our priorities. He pushed us to make our country our first preference over any other thing in this world. He said that its only education that could bring this nation to a win-win situation.

After his speech got over, the time came for which we all waited for long. The marathon began with a race throughout the campus and when it came to an end, the winners were immediately chosen. Similar with the 100m race, 100X4 m race, Javelin throw, discus throw, short put etc, the winners were decided under both boys and girls category. Their prizes would be given to them on the Foundation day next year.

On this very occasion, I remember the words of our first Prime Minister, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru,” in the stroke of the midnight, India will awaken to Independence.” That was the day and now is the day, now the thing which we require is that, “ In the stroke of the midnight, India awakes towards more prosperity, more power, more per capita income, more ethics, more employment, more greenery, more success in social and economic life”. After all, the country progresses if the people progress.
