Science Conclave
Indian Institute of Information Technology-Allahabad (IIIT-A) organised ASIA’S first ever Science Conclave with eight Nobel laureates was at its, Jhalwa campus, from December 15 and 21. It was supported by the Human Resource Development (HRD) and Science and Technology ministries, GoI. It was a great opportunity for the Indian scientific community particularly young minds to interact with global veterans and stalwarts in the respective scientific disciplines. During the week-long Science Conclave the esteemed Nobel Prize winners spent time interacting with youngsters and inspiring them with their passion in the areas of physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics. Among the various guests, Sir Harod (Harry) Walter Kroto who got the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1996; Martin Lewis Perl- who won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1995 for the discovery of the tau, Sir Tannuodji, Prof Slavnov, Antony James Leggett ;Jerome Isaac Friedman- winner of the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1990 graced the conclave. Close to 1,300 students pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in science and young researchers from across the country, actively participated in the conclave. The cultural evenings during the week witnessed stupendous performances by Padamsri Madhavi Mudgal who presented an Odissi dance recital, beautiful performance by Hema Malini, Pinaz Masani, Isha Sherwani and Anoop Jalota .
Hon’ble Director Dr. M.D. Tiwari echoed the views of several prominent Indian scientists, when he said, "During the 1960s and 1970s, brilliant students used to get into the science stream. But not anymore; most students go for professional streams.” Thus, the conclave not only proved to be an effective platform of communication and interaction but also inspired the Indian youth to still love pure sciences and for it. It would help our budding scientists to pave a path for a better, brighter future.
Republic day celebration
This great day of Indian history was celebrated and rejoiced by the whole IIITA family. Hon’ble Director Dr. M.D. Tiwari hosted the Indian flag and gave a short speech regarding the importance of this day in everyone’s life. The day was marked by the enthusiastic participation of students in the marathon held in the IIIT-A campus.
Nomination of office Bearers
Office bearers for various extra-curricular clubs were appointed by the Hon’ble Director Dr. M.D. Tiwari for the session from (January to December, 2009).
Kavi Sammelan
A Kavi Sammelan was organized in Prayag Sangeet Samiti on 22nd January. Eminent poets like Padamshree Dr.Gopal Das Neeraj, Mr.Sandeep Sharma, Mr.Kamlesh Dwivedi, Ms Kavita Tiwari, and Mr. Yash Malviya embraced the occasion and recited their poems in a huge congregation.
Guest Lecture by Mr.Santosh Dwivedi
Mr. Santosh Dwivedi from European Computers Telecom AG, Munich (Germany) delivered a talk on 25th January. He discussed about the general trends in IT industry and the impact of recession on the Indian economy.
International Conference on IHCI
The First International Conference on Intelligent Human Computer Interaction (IHCI 2009) was conducted from 20-23rd January with many interactive sessions and workshops in the institute’s campus. On the inaugural session Prof. Vaclav Snasel was the chief guest.
Workshop on “GIS and Their Applications" from 27thJan-31st Jan'09
The inaugural session of Winter School on “GIS and Their Applications" was done on 27th January 2009 .Students enthusiastically participated in the various sessions of the event.
Saraswati puja held at IIITA
Saraswati Puja was celebrated on the auspicious day of Basant Panchami on 31st January. Staff members with their families and students marked this puja with their presence in the dormitory and took blessings from Goddess Saraswati, the goddess of learning.
Visit of Univ. of Buffalo Delegation
A delegation from the University of Buffalo (UB), The State University of New York, under the leadership of UB President Mr. John Simpson, visited the Institute Campus on 10th February, 2009.
PETALS: The open writing competition
The Literary Club proudly organized an on-the-spot creative writing competition 13th January. Top 3 entries were given prizes and top 10 will be published on the literary club website.
Dance party
The much awaited Dance Party was successfully organized by Dance Club Ushma on 15th February. The students had a good time getting away from the daily schedule and enjoying the events. Prizes for best dressed female, best dressed male and paper dance were announced.
