USHMA, THE DANCE CLUB ACTIVITIES

 

DANCE PARTY

Here arrives the most awaited event of IIIT–A amongst the students i.e.“The Dance Party” which was conducted on 4th of April’2010. It was the very first event by the new club bearers of 2010 under the club “Ushma” (i.e. Dance club). Theme of this party was “Beach Party” and also the ambience and the decorations were suiting theme. There was a lot of fun, enjoyment and dance during the whole event.

It was an informal event where at the entry of each person, they have to register themselves and get a token of the party. It was actually the part of a game in which one person has to ask any question to another and all those who answers for the question in either yes or no have to give their token to the one asking the question. At the end of the party, the person with the maximum number of token was the winner of the game and was also given the gift.

There were also many other prizes distributed. One was for first, second and third prize of best dress for both boys and girls decided on the basis of audience poling. There was also the facility of dedicating songs was available.

At the end of the party there was a couple dance (paper dance) competition consisting of various rounds, where the winner was a couple from Btech. I year.

Finally, the party came to an end around at 1:00 a.m. with the great success and enjoyment.   

                                                                                                                         

DANCE CLASSES (SALSA)

This time the new club bearers from the club “Ushma” i.e. the dance club had done an extension where they introduced the Salsa classes in the IIITA campus.

These classes were being taken by “Sashaank Mamididana” from Mumbai. He has been into dancing since the age of 5 and got trained with Shiamak for a period of 2 years and has also performed at his shows. He then took to Salsa and the various Latin American and Ballroom Dances namely Rumba, Samba, Cha Cha, Jive, Waltz and Foxtrot.  He has been trained under Mr. Sandip Soparrkar for a period of 3 years and also performed for him at various shows including International Pune Film Festival, Kalaghoda Arts festival held in Mumbai etc. He has also participated in Workshops held by Mellisa, an international ballroom champion held in Delhi. He took part in the First National Ballroom Championship 2006 held at Delhi and secured a Gold Medal there and has also been performed for Boogie Woogie on Sony Entertainment Television in Latin Dance Special Episode. Apart from these he also shot under Sandip for a number of dance shoots for Ndtv, Aaj Tak and Times now. For the last two years, he has been performing for the International Dance Day held in Mumbai.

The classes were held at the Upcoming Canteen from 5th April to 11th where there were more than 50 participants who include the students from all courses running in the college as well as the faculty and the staff residing in the campus. Timings of the classes were after the college hours i.e. from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

He taught Basic Styling, hammer lock, fan n hockey, left under arm turn, right under arm turn and many more styles to the participants and even taught them the choreography. 

These classes were a real motivation for all of us and we also look forward for some more classes of such kind in future.
