Naxalite movement in India has shown its grimness on Tuesday 6 April 2010, when at least 75 personnel of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were killed in an ambush by Naxalites in Dontewada region of Chhattisgarh. According to authorities the Naxalites attacked on a CRPF convoy in Tedemetle forest. Around 50 soldiers died in a mine blast and rest 25 were martyred during gun battle. This catastrophic event took place during ongoing “Green Hunt” operation carried by Chattisgarh government and CRPF jointly. According to officials nearly 1000 Naxalites were involved in this heinous activity and CRPF team containing 120 soldiers was trapped at the place of attack. The attack was one of the biggest setbacks for Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram. "Something has gone very wrong. They (security personnel) seemed to have walked into a trap set by the Naxalites. I am deeply shocked. This attack shows the savage nature of the CPI (Maoist)," Chidambaram said. Attack has taken place just after two days a landmine attack in Orissa in which 11 people lost their life.

The stigmatic situation of Naxalism is outcome of deep rooted problem started with land disputes between landlords and tribal communities of Naxalbari, a small village in West Bengal. A section of Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) led by Charu Majumdar, Kanu Sanyal and Jangal Santhal initiated a violent uprising in 1967. A moment led by them for redistribution of land in poor tribal community by violent means. Subsequently, many tribal and other peasants joined the movement. Rhetoric movement then led by  Charu Majumdar who was inspired by the doctrines of Mao Zedong, and advocated that Indian peasants and lower class tribal overthrow the government and upper classes through the barrel of the gun. In 1967 Naxalites formed organization the All India Coordination Committee of Communist Revolutionaries (AICCCR), and later broke away from CPM. This in turn gave birth to Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist). All Naxalite groups traced their origin to the CPI (ML). India's Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) believed in 2006 that 20,000 Naxals are currently involved in the growing insurgency.

But question comes why in present scenario when our nation is amongst one of the leader in developing countries; this movement started for survival has aggrandizing? Let$rsquo;s look at some of the facts about it

Coordinate planning and programmed phase wise action plan is needed to fight with this problem, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal should make joint plan to conduct search and insurgent operations. Specialized training programs on guerrilla war techniques and highly specialized IT and logistics support systems should be provided. Financial supporters should be bought to books as it is critical to the success of all efforts. Proper plans for industrial development and employment should be deployed in phase wise manner. But ironically this all is possible only with strong and unite political will.
