"Change will not come if we wait for
some other person or some other time.
We are the ones we've been waiting
for"
-Barack Obama
Are we over managed or under led? Or a more
relevant question would be- are we even led. Do we turn to our political
leaders for inspiration? Or can we seek to emulate leaders from the corporate
world? In times as turbulent and dynamic as today, every one of us faces a
paucity of befitted icons to look up to and at the same time none of us is
willing to take up that initiative, to move that extra mile to be one. "We must
be the change we wish to see", said Gandhiji. It is high time we realize what
kind of footprints we are leaving for generations to come. There is an entire
gamut of values to be imbibed, hence the quality of inputs fed into the person
become quintessential.
This is the era of change. Those who excel are the ones who
not only can cope up with dynamism but also be an epitome of change. From
contingent leadership being in vogue, we have moved into an age of
transformational leadership. Infact, apart from being the trend, this is also
the dire need of the hour. We need business leaders who would think beyond just
their revenues and balance sheets. We need leaders who would realize as to how
vital their role is providing these society efficient and compassionate
citizens. We need "inspired leaders". Ethics, diversity, mindfulness,
compassion and sustainability are the five pillars of "Inspired
Leadership". They truly create lasting value in the true sense of the word
and build organizations of consequence. Thereby, the primary onus lies on the
manufacturing plants of these leaders, because at the end of the day the
quality of input would decide the quality of output. These centers of learning
where the students are trained should be vanguards of change in shaping the
future through education. They should build capabilities, character and
enthusiasm and focus on developing leaders that create and contribute to
sustainable organizations.
What is requisite is to transcend the boundaries of
conventions and wake upto the realities and dynamics of the world we live in,
to create business leaders for tomorrow, infact, inspired leaders for tomorrow
