THE END OF
ANOTHER DICTATOR
The strife that began two months ago
between Gaddafi and NATO (The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation)
forces finally came to an end with the death of a dictator. All over the world
this has become a debatable topic, whether killing of Gaddafi is justice on
humanitarian grounds or not? Although his death or murder is still uncertain,
questions are being raised how he was actually killed? Whether he was shot dead
during the crossfire or whether he was alive when caught? Because instances by
"THE HINDU" had quoted that he was hiding inside a drainage pipe and as such
was dragged out by people who were suppressed by his anarchy for years and
years, neither showed pity nor treated with mercy where the anarchist has claimed
for. This is supposed to be an inhuman condition because as a dictator
somewhere or the other he brought some positive changes to his country
rationally towards health, wealth, education and infrastructure.
Let us first have a brief overview of
his regime. His full name is Muammer Gaddafi. He
joined as a military official and reigned Libya for
around four decades since 1969 till 2011. During his regime, primary education
was free of cost irrespective of gender besides encouraging Health facilities
for the people of Libya and creating awareness amongst his people about the
abundant natural oil resources of his country. All the above, he was always the
one who fought against imperialists. Hence at least, for that he should have been captured and trialed on
legal grounds.
Generally developed countries are been
having their eyes on certain oil rich countries. Whereas the case of Libya can
also be well taken into that notion although NATO gives its justification of
its attack on Libya on humanitarian grounds, for saving people of Libya from
anarchy and establishing democracy over the same, but many say that it was
purposeful of capturing the oil resources of Libya, being said and maintained
as 'humanistic approach'.
Whatsoever the contributions by Muammer Gaddafi towards the welfare of the people of Libya,
he was always opposed for his ruthless ruling such as giving death sentences,
killing political opponents, serious engagement in various terrorist activities
and independence movements. He would have been a great ruler if he had sought
for participation from his people in various legitimate actions if at all his
ruthless dictatorship would not have won him revolt from his people and brought
an end to his regime.
Finally with the end of Gaddafi, Libya
is on the verge of entering into a new era of democracy. According to "THE
HINDU" 'Left parties on Friday 21st, October 2011, said that it is for the people of
Libya to decide the type of government and political system in their country
and that cannot be imposed on'. This may bring a time for celebration to the
people of Libya when they got liberated from the chains of slavery under a
ruthless dictator. But for the same we cannot say that Gaddafi's end will bring
peace and stability in Libya. Now another struggle for establishing democracy
in such an unstable country will not be an easy task because the quest for
power will begin between various Libyan political parties.
Though Muammer
Gaddafi's end had
proven once again that dictatorship always has tragic end, it had always been
lead by a lot of bloodshed and killings of many innocents and hence, peace in
Libya is still a long term goal.
