Technova
BPL

In this 21st century, many new technologies are emerging & one of them is Broad band Over Powerline Technology. Broad band Over Powerline technology will going to be a major technology in the field of Internet & advance delivery power system.

BPL or broadband over power line or Power line communication is a technology that allows data from the Internet to be transmitted over utility power lines. Currently, the Internet is providing by three major ways. DSL, cable, and satellite Internet providers. DSL data is pushed through phone lines. Cable Internet is transmitted through the cable companies’ fiber lines, while satellite Internet data is sent through airwaves.

BPL technology can use the household electrical power wiring as a transmission medium. In order to make use of BPL, subscribers use neither a phone, cable nor satellite connections. This means that every power socket in your home or office is a potential access point for logging on to the Net. This technology put Internet protocol (IP) in the existing power lines.

Once the power network is Broadband and IP, it can be managed like any other broadband IP communications network. A computer (or any other device) would need only to plug a BPL modem into any outlet in an equipped building to have high-speed Internet access.

The beauty of the technology is that a power supply company does not have to change its existing infrastructure. The same infrastructure that a company uses to deliver power to its customers can be used to deliver services such as Internet access, telephony and cable TV. As the technology also enables voice and video to be carried over power lines, users through the same line could share files, make phone calls or even send faxes without ever using the traditional telecommunications infrastructure.

BENEFITS

Voice over internet telephony.
Transmission data/telephone/fax without multiple fixed lines.
Automatic meter reading.
Theft detection. Lighting detection & notifications.
Fault location
Voltage control.

BPL provides internet or broadband access to those, living in rural areas. Today India is becoming a super power so we need to make our infrastructure more strong & suitable.

So that it is necessary to have a strong excellent information flow system, which can connect rural to urban areas. Recently most of the telecommunication companies have decided to provide excellent broadband access to their existing customers & they are taking interest towards the BPL solution. The next few years will decide whether BPL can compete in the broadband market or not.

The questions arises that will this BPL solution is economically viable. The quantity of research has been done in this field and results show that this technology is economically viable compare to other technologies.

Prior to recent developments and innovations, there are some obstacle have been found in its deployment procedure like , noise problem ,attenuation long-distance data transmission over power lines unreliable and uneconomical. Solutions of these problems are now available, digital circuits and noise filters that can help to manage noise problem, attenuation, bypass the signals from the transformers.

For its better deployment, we have to make our network more strong technologically advance. Sending broadband signals over the high-voltage, long-haul lines is still too difficult, but equipment can be placed at critical locations along medium-voltage distribution power lines to create a communications. If we do not upgrade our networking system, so there is a possibility of failure of this technology.

After having a strong networking system required for BPL and flexible regulations of Government. I am sure that this technology will create revolution in the field of broadband access and information flow in future to make India as a super power.
