              . . . WORKSHOP 
              ON ROLE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY IN UNIVERSITY  MANAGEMENT 
 A 
              workshop on the use and application of IT in the university management 
              and administration was organized within the institute premises. 
              It concentrated on planning for application of information technology 
              in realizing the goals of the university, by improving the administration 
              and teaching learning process. Prominent Speakers attending the 
              workshop included Prof. Dongaonkar, Secretary General, Association 
              of Indian Universities (AIU), Prof. Rishi Dev Anand, Director Research, 
              AIU, Dr.Usha Rai Negi, Coordinator, Research Division, AIU. It provided 
              opportunities to senior administrators/ managers/ finance officers/registrars 
              of universities to learn as well as deliberate on the issues related 
              to use of computer and application of IT in the administration and 
              management of universities in India. 
                PLACEMENTS 
              OF STUDENTS CULMINATING IN LUCRATIVE JOBS 
 Several 
              multinational companies thronged the campus for placements. Notable 
              among these were IBM Global, Trilogy, Accenture, Verizon, Induslogic 
              and Hughes Software Systems. Placements brought immense excitement 
              and relief to the students in the form of attractive pay packages 
              to the tune of  7 lakhs p.a., with 3.5 lakhs p.a. being the 
              average. 
                SEMINAR 
              ON OPPORTUNITIES IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND MARKETING 
 Mr. 
              R.N. Ugra, ex-Senior Vice-President (marketing), Jindal Iron & 
              Steel Co. Ltd. shared his vast knowledge and experience, in a seminar 
              on "Opportunities in Information Technology and Marketing." 
              The students were informed about the current trends in the field 
              of IT, the gargantuan scope of IT in the field of marketing, which 
              could affect every aspect of life, and the challenges faced by Indian 
              IT industry in India and off-shore.     
                TALK 
              ON OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE AND INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS 
 Justice 
              Yatinder Singh, Judge, Allahabad High Court, delivered a talk on 
              "Open Source Software & Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)." 
              Students were informed about the widening scope and proliferation 
              of open source softwares, brought about by Linux. Justice Singh 
              also spoke about the "cyber laws" which were enacted to 
              deal with the jurisprudence of cyberspace-problems and IPR, including 
              copyrights and patents.  
                INTERACTION 
              WITH HR & TECHNICAL PEOPLE FROM HUGHES SOFTWARE SYSTEMS 
  HSS 
              Team headed by its HR Coordinator Mr. Gautam Salaria and accompanied 
              by Mr. Rahul and Ms. Polina Mehta from the Technical and HR Departments 
              respectively, visited the institute campus. This provided a platform 
              for the MBA students to interact with their potential employers. 
              The Interaction session helped students gain an insight into HSS 
              and prevailing trends in the IT Industry.   
                INTERACTION 
              WITH PROF. DEEPAK CHANDRA, HEAD EXECUTIVE PROGRAM, ISB, HYDERABAD 
 Prof. 
              Deepak Chandra briefed the students on their two year course structure, 
              the various job avenues and the target areas awaiting IT Managers. 
              The students were made aware of the fact that knowledge of integration 
              of I.T. with the functional areas of business (accounting, finance, 
              marketing, human resource, statistics, and quantitative management, 
              etc.), is where they will have the edge. They can foresee themselves 
              as Managers who would be using IT to run businesses.  |
