SUMMER PLACEMENTS OF MBA STUDENTS FINALISED

Several companies of national and international repute thronged the campus for 2 months summer internships of MBA students. Notable among these were Maruti Udyog Limited, Mahindra British Telecom, Polaris, Novell Netware, L&T Infotech, Asian Paints, TISCO, ICICI Bank and Reliance Infocomm. Summer placements finalization brought immense excitement and relief to the students.

NATIONAL SEMINAR ON INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS AND ITS IMPLICATIONS ON IT AND ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY

A three day national seminar on 'Intellectual Property Rights and its implications on IT and Entertainment Industry' was organized from February 18-20, 2004 within the institute premises. Dr. K.N.Chaturvedi, Member-Secretary, Law Commission of India was the chief guest on the occasion. The Seminar took stock of the role of IPR in the country's development process and highlight research and educational accomplishments in the field of IPR. Over 30 delegates representing national and state-level institutions, think tanks and academicians participated in the Conference. The seminar witnessed some very distinguished officials from the Govt. of India, Indian Music Industry, FICCI, legal experts deliberating on key issues in the field of IPR. It went a long way to reinforce efforts in recognizing and understanding the role of IPR in countries' development process by helping to implement strategies, policies and actions to prevent copyright, trademarks and patents infringement.

WORKHOP ON OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

IIIT-Allahabad organized a workshop on 'Open Source Software and Information Technology', on 26th Feb. 2005, sponsored by the IEEE UP Chapter, IIT Kanpur. Prominent Speakers attending the workshop included Dr. Anjan Kumar Ghosh, Dr. Y.N. Singh and Dr. Gaurav Bajpai from IIT Kanpur, Dr. S.K. Bajpai from IET Lucknow, Justice Yatinder Singh and Justice Sunil Ambawani from High Court Allahabad. Lectures were delivered on the increasing penetration of the Open Source Movement in the country. Novel ways of implementing the open source movement in India and still generating good revenue was part of the talk. The issue of IPR was also taken up as it forms a close bond with the Open source issues and various legalities concerning the same were debated upon.

TALK ON CAREER PATH, MARKETING AND NEGOTIATION SKILLS BY MR. BRIJESH KR. SINGH

A special class-room session was conducted by Mr. Brijesh Kr. Singh, Regional Manager TCS, Denmark. The major focus was on the career-path of MBA-IT students. Students were enlightened and informed about the key success parameters which are must for a successful career. The discussions also concentrated on the challenges faced by the young managers in the field of marketing. The interactive session also focused on effective business negotiations. Overall, it was a session which brought the budding future managers face-to-face with the adventurous yet challenging aspects of marketing, and the practical application of knowledge to cope with it.

INTERACTION WITH MR. F.C. KOHLI ON TECHNOLOGY AND ITS IMPLICATIONS

Mr. F.C. Kohli, former Deputy Chairman of TCS, and present Chairperson, Board of Governers, IIIT-A held an interactive session with the students on varied issues of technology and its future implications. Mr. Kohli talked about the importance of venturing into new areas of technology and conveyed the great potential that India has in terms of intellectual human resources, which were ready to take on the world.
