Today it is unequivocally affirmed that INDIA is making leaps in technology
and economic areas, and the current announcement by the Centre of setting
up a knowledge based commission to exploit the "blatant potential"
of the country's knowledge network has added fire to the movement. In
a race of technological advancements one should be fully aware of the
rights and must abide by the laws to make the worthiest use of his talents.
The flow is irresistible and thus it becomes the moral duty of those
framing the laws to protect the intellect from being stolen or lured.
Big names in the market will try to
capture this genius and the movement seems already being started though
seeming to be a fair game this time. The recent releases of 1600 patents
by Sun Microsystems under the Common Development and Distribution License
(CDDL), is appreciated by various foundations working for the open source
of software and redistributing them under certain licensing schemes.
By this move Sun is fostering open innovation and global patenting schemes.
Applying it to INDIAN scenario, where the country possess enough potential
to capture the market by innovative young minds, the need of the hour
is to develop proper licensing schemes which should on one hand protect
the intellect and side by side promote the innovation by making the
ideas available to all protected by certain laws.
Liberation
in its true sense cannot be achieved in the INDIAN IT industry till
all those involve with the development and marketing come forward and
help the Government frame proper regulatory policies committed to create
a conducive environment to facilitate rapid growth of service sector.
For achieving this objective, the country requires creation of adequate
human resource capabilities, appropriate certification and standard
setting institutions, besides removing infrastructure bottlenecks and
creation of global awareness of India.
