GYMKHANA REPORT
This time the Campus Pulse team tried to peep in what the students think about the gymkhana at IIITA.
According to a survey conducted by the team, eighty percent of the students voted for the Gymkhana elections, which represents that Gymkhana is pretty popular amongst the students at IIITA. Also, 78 percent of the students consider the elections at Gymkhana to be fair and just.
The students were not very happy when asked about the matters and issues if taken up efficiently by the Gymkhana members. Sixty percent feel that the Gymkhana doesn’t take the students views and issues seriously. Also sixty percent students feel that the administration provides due cognizance to the Gymkhana but surprisingly, there was a 50-50 view when it came to answer whether or not the students reach administration through Gymkhana.
Also, majority (sixty two percent) of the students feel that the committees and clubs made by the Gymkhana are performing their duties and responsibilities in an efficient manner. This is really a good news that most of the students are satisfied with the working of the gymkhana. In fact, about sixty six percent students feel that the Gymkhana activities doesn’t distract the students from academics. It gives a feel that students are quite comfortable with the parallel running of the Gymkhana along-with academics. Also sixty six percent of the students want to be member of Gymkhana at IIITA. This clearly indicates the level of popularity of Gymkhana at IITA.
There were certain suggestions too by the students. The students want to be more connected to the Gymkhana and feel that monthly meeting of all students with the Gymkhana members would definitely better the work of the Gymkhana. Some students suggest bringing up a portal/blog as it will provide greater participation of students via online interaction with the gymkhana members. The students want more power be vested to Gymkhana members so that they could make independent decisions. Students also suggested that there should be at least one member from every department of IIITA as representative of that department in the Gymkhana and provision should also be made for the differently abled students. Some students feel that the eligibility criteria of having minimum grade points of 8.5 must be relaxed so that more number of students can contest in gymkhana elections.
But if we look at the overall positioning of Gymkhana in the minds of the students, it occupies a decent place where most of the students want to stay connected to the Gymkhana and participate in all of its activities. Students want more interaction with the gymkhana representatives on a regular basis so that their point of views and suggestions be incorporated in the functioning of the Gymkhana activities.
