1. Introduction:

Two decades ago, the word “Virtual reality” was seems to be something, which can only be described in fairy tales or human dreams to normal people. Almost all the people on Earth, fantasise about their desires and wishes in their thoughts which leads them to another world called virtual world which is nothing but a state of mind.

Many people may get confused between virtual reality and movies [or any kind of fictional video clips]. Though the things are co related, but they are not actually same, as Movie clips shoot with real people and place with addition to computer graphics where in Virtual reality, there is nothing called real.

In modern life, many people are spending more time in virtual reality rather than their real life. This is a new era and a sophisticated invention of science. Now a day, we have plenty of computer games which help us to fantasize about almost all possible thinking of human mind in virtual world. These games are nothing but computer programs which are built with the immersion of high definition sensors like 3d visualization, motion sensors, audio sensors and smell.

This article will leads towards the expansion of virtual reality industry, its effects on human mind and usefulness of the same in human life. It will also put some light on some various categorization of virtual reality technique which are all like integral reality & augmented reality.

  1. Virtual reality :

The term “artificial reality”, coined by Myron Krueger, has been in use since the 1970s[1]. Virtual Reality in its modern usage was popularized by Jaron Lanier through his company VPL Research.

From 1960’s to 1980’s, concept and evaluation of virtual reality was only lies on articles and few short films.

The use of virtualise-ing real thing came into picture through movies only, however invention in this field has gone through different phases and initiatives of many organizations.

Virtual Reality can be considered an immersive, interacting computerised multimedia which is related to world most of the time and can also be configured as per human out of the box design.

  1. Modern world with virtual reality:

We have countless examples of virtual systems in our day to day life. Mainly they are surrounded with computerised video games with high definition graphics in use. We can consider few names given below.

> Euro truck simulator

> Alien isolation

> Assesto corsa

> Games from oculus etc.

These names [2] are famous among them. Moreover we are not bounded to only desktop / laptops or smart phones to make use of virtual reality games, rather we have real time environment like virtual box, virtual earphones, 3D glasses. A classic example is Virtuix Omni [3] games where human use to stand in a room covered with high definition graphics to provide 360 degree view to the player along with glasses and ear plugs on for real time sound and visuals. And most importantly an automatic sensor activated treadmill with artificial intelligence which will move according to the human movement and can also depicts next possible motion for the player. The entire environment will make you realizes that you are really in such a battleground and fighting with rivals.

Apart from this we have use of virtual reality in many other development areas in an industrial level, like:

> Use of virtual reality component to demo graph construction like sky crapper or bridges in civil engineering field.

> Use 3D virtualization for cell structure of living creatures including human to identify diseases etc.

> The same is being using by astronauts for formulating clear idea of the solar system and its behaviour.

> Virtual reality and graphics are now been use to create fighting choppers, submarine and weapons.

In this way we have countless uses of virtual reality in our real life.

  1. Integral Reality :

There is an alternative digital future taking shape that is called Integral Reality [5], which combines the best of the digital and analog worlds. Integral Reality intertwines the wonders of the digital within the physicality of real things. With digital components embedded and invisible within objects, Integral Reality won’t separate us from the real world like virtual reality, but instead promises to create emotionally engaging experiences with it. This is already happening with the first wave of connected smart home appliances, like thermostats and air-conditioners, and wearable technologies that monitor health or physical activities. Human life is getting their first taste of how unobtrusive sensors and aggregated data and connectivity between the physical and the digital can make their lives more comfortable, convenient and secure.

But there’s still much to explore. Integral Reality will become even more compelling as technology advances, allowing designers to place digital and interactive elements in many more products in ways that will enhance the already rich analog world.

  1. Augmented Reality :

Augmented reality is a live direct or indirect view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented (or supplemented) by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data. It is related to a more general concept called mediated reality, in which a view of reality is modified (possibly even diminished rather than augmented), by a computer. As a result, the technology functions by enhancing one’s current perception of reality By contrast; virtual reality replaces the real world with a simulated one. Augmentation is conventionally in real-time and in semantic context with environmental elements, such as sports scores on TV during a match. With the help of advanced AR technology (e.g. adding computer vision and object recognition) the information about the surrounding real world of the user becomes interactive and digitally manipulable.

  1. Addiction towards VR :

Till we are using virtual reality components for innovation and creativity is fine, but video games are not as healthier as it looks like. Spending hours to play games by putting up ear phones and glasses may result mental sickness and other diseases like general discomfort, headache, stomach awareness, nausea, vomiting, pallor, sweating, fatigue, drowsiness, disorientation, and apathy etc. A well-known among them is Virtual Reality Sickness [better known as cyber sickness ] [7]. Though these kinds of games are really helpful to stress out our mind in a daily schedule, but being addicted to them can lead to several long time / short time diseases. Especially this affects the mind and perception power of children and also tends them to think about this fantasised world of games which lowers their thinking capability.

  1. Conclusion:

Put a conclusion to topic which deals with the war between virtual reality and reality is not that easy. The expansion of modern technology and human growth is directly proportional to virtual reality technology and their invention. Though we know the consequence of enhancing the use of virtual reality can have broad negative effect.

The correct approach is; the things which human could not achieve in past, first it should be imagined and implemented virtually through VR gadgets and then it should be innovated in real world for humanity.

Hence the use of virtual fantasy should be the limit of entertainment only and not more than that.
