Introduction
As the most awaited and happening event of the year – Effervescence 2015 came to an end, the Campus Pulse team conducted an online survey among IIIT-A students to learn about their experiences, likes and dislikes at the event. Our team designed the survey to hear directly from students about the event and what improvement they want in order to make it more enjoyable and successful.
Methodology
The team floated an online form via Google forms, which consisted of various questions to analyze the students experience at Effervescence. Around 125 students from different courses across the campus participated in the online survey. The results were collected, analyzed, measured via metrics and findings were summarized.
Results & Findings
When asked what made them aware about the Effervescence, 68% of respondents felt that the campus atmosphere was quite charged up and lively before the Effervescence whereas 20% of them came to know about Effervescence only when they saw their fellow students missing lectures as they were preparing for the various events.
When asked about the role of the effervescence website in attracting them for the event, it was a mixed response. 54% rated the effervescence website as ‘good’ in attracting them for the event. Thus more emphasis could be laid on developing a more eye catching and persuasive website.
When asked about rating the favorite event category at effervescence, the informal events (like gully cricket, pani-puri contest, etc) were the strong favorites (with an overwhelming majority of 85%) closely followed by the Music & Dance category (70%), but the technical events (like quizzes, coding competitions, etc) were largely unpopular (only 13% of respondents say they liked them the most). Needless to say, the informal events witnessed the highest participation (around 57%) while the technical events witnessed less participation (only 6%).
Interestingly, more than 54% of the survey respondents are of the view that the classes should be cancelled even for the informal events (e.g. gully cricket) which usually take place during the day to get a greater feel of the college event. So maybe the informal events need be given their due weightage for the next Effervescence.
When asked about the appeal of a celebrity in making event more lucrative, 67% of the survey respondents strongly believe that the presence of a celebrity increases the charm and excitement of Effervescence. Also, more than 70% are of view that the opinion/preference of the students must be considered for inviting any celebrity to the event! Wow, so make your cake and eat it too! This was interesting students.
When asked about their satisfaction with the security arrangements, only 40% of the survey respondents found it satisfactory. That means majority felt the need of a more secure environment. Further research needs to be carried out in this respect to find out what made them feel insecure and what all should be incorporated to make them satisfied with the security issues.
When asked about the various arrangements, 70% of the survey respondents rated the facilities like food stalls, seating arrangement etc during night events as ‘satisfactory’ with around 20% as ‘very satisfactory’. Thumbs Up !
Also, more than 43% of the surveyed respondents think that the limit to bring in their friends and family for the event should be increased ( currently only one per student).
Conclusion
While some problems and improvement suggestions were made, like time-clashes between the events, too many insects in the campus, ground being too dusty and need for improvement in security measures, the overall experience can be rated as ‘good’ (rated by 60% ) and 32% rated as ‘excellent’. Thus more than 90% of the respondents are extremely satisfied with their experience at Effervescence. Kudos!
Overall, the event was a huge success which witnessed massive participation from the students and break the mundane, regular life at campus. The students, from now only, are looking forward for the next ‘Effervescence 2016’, which shows the popularity of the event and the thrill amongst the students for the same.
